Man who hit house charged with negligent driving

MERRIMACK - A 20-year-old driver has been charged with negligent driving after police say he became distracted and crashed his vehicle into a house Saturday on Amherst Road.

Police say Joseph Matthes, of 14 Mason Road, was reaching for an item inside his 1999 Honda CRV when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the front yard of 183 Amherst Road and hit the house.

Matthes was treated at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been charged with negligent driving, a violation-level offense, according to authorities.
