Kings call up Monarchs' Schultz

Before Wednesday night’s Game 3 meeting of the Calder Cup Eastern Conference quarterfinals against the Admirals at the Norfolk Scope Arena, the Monarchs learned they were going into the contest without Jeff Schultz.
The defenseman boarded a plane and headed to San Jose, Calif., to join the Los Angeles Kings for Game 7 against the Sharks Wednesday. The Kings were looking to become only the fourth NHL team in league history to battle back from a three-games-to-none deficit.
Schultz played in 67 regular season games with the Monarchs this season, recording two goals and 11 assists. Schultz also appeared in the first two playoff games against Norfolk.

Schultz, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, has NHL experience. He played in 399 career regular season games with Washington and 29 playoff games with the Capitals.

On Wednesday Manchester was looking to take a 2-1 lead in its best-of-five playoff series against Norfolk.

The Monarchs are idle today before resuming play Friday in Game 4 at 7:30 p.m.

If a Game 5 is needed, the teams will remain in Norfolk for the 7:15 p.m. start on Saturday.
