Search continues for new Pelham town administrator

PELHAM — The search for Pelham’s new town administrator is taking longer than expected.

While town officials had recently said they’d expected to make a selection in April, during Tuesday night’s Selectmen meeting Chairman Edmund Gleason said the board “remained in the review process” of candidate interviews.

“It would be premature of us to discuss it any further at this time, but we are making progress,” Gleason added.

Selectmen vowed to have a permanent hire in place by June 1.

Few additional details were revealed this week; officials did not identify any of the potential candidates.

During a board meeting earlier this month, selectmen said 24 candidates had expressed interest in the position.

Of those, eight candidates were selected for interviews, although two of them withdrew from the process.

On April 15, Gleason said the evaluations of those six interviews were still underway, though board members said they hoped to make a final selection by the end of the month.

The deadline for applications was March 18.

Former Town Administrator Tom Gaydos was placed on administrative leave in early January and gave his official resignation about a month later.

Gaydos, who had worked as the town’s administrator since 2002 and previously served as town administrator in Ashland and Ossipee, did not give a reason for his resignation and selectmen didn’t readily discuss their reasons for placing him on administrative leave.

“This is not a criminal matter, it is a personnel issue,” Selectman William McDevitt said in January.

Police Chief Joseph Roark has been serving as acting town administrator since Gaydos’ departure.

A salary for the new town administrator wasn’t listed on the advertisement for the position, but town documents indicate Gaydos’ annual salary was $103,000 at the time he was placed on leave.
