Police: Distracted driver cited after hitting Merrimack home

MERRIMACK — A 20-year-old driver has been charged with negligent driving after he allegedly became distracted and crashed his vehicle into a house Saturday on Amherst Road.

Police say Joseph Matthes, of 14 Mason Road, was reaching for an item inside of his 1999 Honda CRV when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the front yard of 183 Amherst Road and hit the house.

Matthes was treated at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua for non-life threatening injuries. He has since been charged with negligent driving, a violation-level offense, according to authorities. — Kimberly Houghton, Union Leader Correspondent
