Woman, man shot on Nashua street

NASHUA — A man and a woman were shot and seriously wounded on a Nashua street Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., the shots were fired in the area of 18 Merrimack St. in Nashua, near the intersection of Merrimack and Amherst streets.

The two people who were shot each suffered two gunshot wounds, according to officials and were taken to Nashua hospitals.

Shortly after, the victims were flown to Boston area hospitals for treatment.

Initial reports said a man suffered two gunshot wounds to the back of his head, while a woman was shot twice in the abdomen.

The area surrounding the scene of the shooting was immediately closed off to traffic while detectives began the search for evidence into the shooting. Authorities were reportedly seeking a Hispanic male wearing a blue hoodie in connection with the shootings.

The crime scene is around the corner from Nashua Fire Department’s Station 1 on Amherst Street, and a couple of blocks from the North Common, home to a number of athletic fields.

Also within blocks of the crime scene is Holman Stadium, where a high school baseball game between Bishop Guertin High School of Nashua and Winnacunnett High School of Hampton was played Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
