Talia's in Londonderry is a new cafe in the same family

LONDONDERRY — Londonderry’s latest restaurant addition is truly a family affair.

Located in the former site of longtime local favorite Janie’s Uncommon Cafe, Talia’s Breakfast & Eatery, which opened April 28 at 44 Nashua Road, represents a lifelong dream of Christopher Frost and his wife, Elissa.

It’s very familiar territory for Christopher, whose father, Tim Frost, co-owns Janie’s Uncommon Café with business partner Janie Tuerk and continues to operate the diner following its recent move down the street to the Crossroads Mall, 123 Nashua Road.

The elder Frost and Tuerk previously owned the Depot Square Steakhouse in Derry, though that restaurant closed in November 2010.

Christopher, who grew up working in his father’s restaurants, decided to name his new restaurant after their 2-year-old daughter, Talia.

Several oversized portraits of Talia’s smiling mug now adorn the dining room, which is freshly painted in a steely blue.

Offering daily breakfast and lunch, as well as catering, Talia’s also features a special menu for folks with gluten allergies and emphasizes fresh ingredients.

“We have plenty of classic choices, but a lot of healthy things as well,” Elissa said. “There’s also a kids menu.”

Elissa, who teaches sixth grade at Elm Street School in Nashua, helps out at the restaurant on weekends and vacations.

For the past several weeks the pair has been spending plenty of time readying their new restaurant: painting walls, installing new carpet and making it their own.

“There’s definitely a fresher vibe in here,” Elissa said.

The new restaurant has about 25 employees. At five pages long, the menu offers standard breakfast and lunch fare, as well as more decadent items like pancakes stuffed with peanut butter cups and eggs Benedict with crab cakes.

There’s also a selection of fresh fruit smoothies as well as daily specials.

Word of Talia’s opening is traveling fast.

As of Friday morning, the business’ Facebook page had nearly 400 “likes.”

“Every day we seem to grow a little more,” Elissa said.

Talia’s is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
