CLAREMONT — River Valley Community College has a new transfer agreement with the New Hampshire Institute of Art that allows students who complete certain courses and qualifications at River Valley a guaranteed spot in the institute’s creative writing bachelor’s degree program.
“This important academic partnership is an excellent pathway for River Valley Community College students to engage and develop as excellent creative writers and thinkers,” said River Valley President Dr. Alicia Harvey-Smith. “It’s also an exciting opportunity for the two institutions to explore other innovative partnerships.”
Under the agreement signed April 17, River Valley students are eligible for transfer if they have earned an associate’s degree in creative writing from River Valley, have achieved a 2.5 or higher overall grade point average and receive the endorsement of the Creative Writing Department chair from River Valley for the transfer.
Additionally, River Valley associate’s degree graduates who are accepted into the Art Institute are guaranteed to receive an annual $8,000 Community College Scholarship.
River Valley faculty can also nominate one graduate per year to receive an additional $500 award.
“The New Hampshire Institute of Art is excited to enter into this partnership with River Valley Community College,” Bob Gielow, vice president of enrollment services for the Institute, said in a news release. “We believe that many New Hampshire students with an interest in creative writing will benefit from this agreement. We are also pleased to offer a significant scholarship to help those students pay for tuition here at the Institute.”
