Bragdon won't seek reelection to Senate after signing 2-year HealthTrust contract

CONCORD - HealthTrust Executive Director Peter Bragdon will not seek reelection to his state Senate seat after signing a two-year contract on Tuesday to remain in the top post of the former New Hampshire Local Government Center subsidiary.

"I want to focus on HealthTrust, so for that reason I will not be running for reelection," Bragdon said Tuesday afternoon.

Bragdon's new contract provides him an annual raise of $5,000, pushing his salary to $185,000 per year.

Bragdon's hiring last August, while he was still Senate president, stirred controversy over whether his roles constituted a conflict of interest. Bragdon, a Republican from Milford, resigned the presidency, but remained in the Senate.

An ethics panel cleared him of wrongdoing but placed restrictions on his participating in any legislation or regulatory proceedings that could be related to HealthTrust.
