Funeral services set for fallen Brentwood officer

EXETER — Funeral services for Brentwood police officer Steve Arkell will be held at Exeter High School, his alma mater, next week.

A wake is scheduled for Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the high school’s gymnasium, Superintendent of Schools Mike Morgan said.

The memorial service is set for Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the school’s William Ball Stadium, Morgan said.

Arkell coached lacrosse at Exeter High; his two daughters are enrolled at the school.

“We are here to welcome the wider community to this event because it is such a terrible tragedy for the family as well as the wider community,” Morgan said.

Officials anticipate thousands of police officers from across the New England, and possibly the nation, will attend, Morgan said.

The stadium has a capacity of about 6,000, he said.
