PETERBOROUGH — A zoning amendment that would have required all subdivisions of rural district lots more than 10 acres to apply a cluster housing/open space approach was knocked down by voters Tuesday.
Voters rejected, 485-394, the zoning article that would have replaced the Open Space Residential Development plan that is already in place with an Innovative Subdivision Design plan.
Planning Board members had proposed the amendment to encourage developers of land of 10 acres or more to cluster proposed housing developments and preserve the majority of the land as open space, as opposed to creating large lots. Those who opposed it said they wanted the traditional Open Space Residential Development to remain an option.
Another highly debated zoning amendment to create a Traditional Neighborhood Overlay Zone was passed by voters 482-392.
The Traditional Neighborhood Overlay Zone allows for more density in the downtown district by allowing growth that matches the density already existing in the village zone.
In the Select Board race, Tyler Ward won with 570 votes against Jack Burnett who garnered 357 votes.
Planning Board incumbents Audrey Cass with 553 votes and Ivy Vann with 473 votes were reelected in a race for two Planning Board seats. They beat Loretta Laurenitis who had 430 votes.
Voters overwhelmingly approved the proposed $12,385,899 budget, 738-158. The 2014-2015 budget is a 4 percent increase over last year’s $11,878,659 budget.
All other spending requests were also approved, including a request for $100,000 for the Fire Department Management Capital Reserve Fund, $17,500 for the Financial Management Software/Hardware Capital Reserve Fund, $15,000 for the Geographic Information System Capital Reserve Fund and $55,000 for the Equipment/Fleet Management Capital Reserve Fund.
A resolution to “Get Big Money out of Politics” was passed by voters 733-158.More than 20 percent, 958 of the town’s 4,752 registered voters, turned out at the Town House Tuesday to vote in the ballot session of Town Meeting.
