The services will be held at Exeter High School, his alma mater. (Officer Arkell’s obituary appears on Page A6.)Arkell was fatally shot May 12 after responding to a call for a domestic disturbance.
A private wake for police and emergency personnel only is scheduled for Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Exeter High School gymnasium, according to the SAU 16 website. The high school is at 1 Blue Hawk Drive, Route 27, Exeter.
Officials agreed to hold the service at the stadium since it can accommodate the thousands of people that are anticipated to attend from New England, and possibly the nation, said Superintendent of Schools Michael Morgan.
The stadium has a capacity of about 6,000, he said.
Arkell moved with his family to Brentwood in 1971. He attended local schools and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1988. He became a builder and later joined the Brentwood Police Department in 1999. He was also the department’s animal control officer.
Along with lacrosse, he also coached soccer and baseball for his two daughters and other local youths.
