Six guns stolen from parked vehicles in 4 Manchester incidents

MANCHESTER — Six guns have been stolen from parked vehicles in four separate incidents since last Friday.

The thefts have prompted police to caution residents about the inherent risk of storing valuables in parked vehicles. Even when locked, a vehicle is easily accessed and its contents vulnerable to theft, police warned.

The first theft was reported Friday at 7 a.m. by a 54-year-old Cedar Street man. He thought he had locked his vehicle with his key fob, but police said there was no evidence of forced entry.

Taken from the vehicle was a blue backpack, with green stripes, that contained a Ruger .44 caliber handgun, a Smith & Wesson .44 caliber handgun and a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun.

About 12:20 p.m. Sunday, a 45-year-old Hubbard Street resident reported the theft of a 9 mm handgun taken from his unlocked Cadillac SUV, parked in his driveway near Amherst Street. The gun was not loaded and there was no ammunition in the car.

On Monday about 8 a.m., a 37-year-old Myrtle Street resident reported a black backpack containing a .40 caliber Glock handgun was stolen from his Hyundai while it was parked in the driveway of his residence, just west of Linden Street.

About 90 minutes later, a 32-year-old Myrtle Street resident reported a .45 caliber Springfield Armory handgun was stolen from his GMC truck while it was parked in his driveway, just East of Linden Street. Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call police at 668-8711. Anonymous tips for cash rewards may be made by calling 624-4040 or online at manchestercrimeline.org .
