Woman faces multiple charges after crash in Derry

DERRY — A Lowell, Mass., woman is facing multiple charges after she allegedly crashed a stolen car through a chain link fence Sunday night at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School as she attempted to elude police.

Jessica Laroe, 30, of 137 Willard St., is charged with driving under the influence—2nd offense, driving after revocation, habitual offender, disobeying a police office and receiving stolen property.  The car was reported stolen in Lowell, according to Derry police Capt. Vern Thomas.

About 11:33 p.m., a Derry officer saw a motorist driving a blue Subaru Legacy in excess of 55 mph on East Broadway near the Derry Public Library.

When police tried to stop the car the driver took evasive action, turning into a residential neighborhood, according to Thomas.  Driving north on Mt. Pleasant Street, Laroe failed to negotiate a sharp turn and the Subaru crashed through a five-foot chain link fence that surrounds the athletic fields behind Gilbert H. Hood Middle School. She drove about 250 yards on the fields before coming to a stop, according to police.

Laroe, who was held at Rockingham County jail on $10,000 cash bail follower her arrest, was arraigned Monday at 10th Circuit Court – Derry District.  Bail was reduced to $5,000 cash or surety, a date was yet to be set for a probable cause hearing.
