STEAM Ahead NH presentation set for Hooksett and Candia

Former Manchester Mayor Bob Baines, now director of STEAM Ahead NH, plans to meet with Hooksett and Candia parents and students to speak about the education program.

Baines will speak in Hooksett on Wednesday, May 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Cawley Media Center at Cawley Middle School. The meeting in Candia will be on Monday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Henry W. Moore School.

Baines will present the school innovation project STEAM Ahead NH, which will be implemented at Manchester High School West and will focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

The project will be launched this fall and is a partnership between the Manchester School District, Manchester Community College and the University System of New Hampshire. Students will explore curriculum pathways in computer science, engineering, allied health and the performing arts and have the opportunity to earn one full year of college credits, at no cost, while they are in high school.

With Baines in Hooksett will be Mary Heath, former New Hampshire commissioner of education and former dean of the School of Education at Southern New Hampshire University, Kathi Mullin, former interim president of Granite State College and now associate vice chancellor for Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives for the University System of New Hampshire, and Susan Huard, president of Manchester Community College.

Mary Heath and Kathi Mullin will also be attending the meeting in Candia. All the presenters are involved in planning the curriculum and assisting with coordinating professional development for the STEAM teachers.
