Monadnock Food Co-op named Green Business of the Year
KEENE — The Monadnock Food Co-op has been named the 2014 Monadnock Green Business of the Year.
“Well just after one full year of being open, it’s really an honor to receive the award, and we’re really inspired to not rest on our laurels, but to continue to strive to be an environmentally and fiscally and socially sustainable business,” Monadnock Food Co-op marketing manager Jen Risley said Tuesday. “It was really great to win that.”
Keene Mayor Kendall Lane announced the award during a ceremony at the Monadnock Earth Festival on April 26.
The nominees this year were the Amazing Flower Farm, Clark-Mortenson Insurance, Dave’s Automotive Enterprises, Hillside Spring Farm, Monadnock Food Co-op and Monadnock Paper Mill.
“From day one, the Monadnock Food Co-op has been an incredible contributor to the Monadnock community and the city of Keene,” Christopher McIntosh of Clark-Mortenson, said at the event.
W.S. Badger of Gilsum was the recipient last year.
The award recognizes one socially and environmentally responsible business in the Monadnock Region and is awarded by the Keene Cities for Climate Protection Committee in partnership with the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce, Hannah Grimes Center, Monadnock Buy Local and Monadnock Sustainability Network.
The Keene Cities for Climate Protection Committee was created to aid in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to protect the viability of the community and to protect public health, safety and welfare.
