Coos County prisoner, 20, charged in sexual assaults

LANCASTER — A 20-year-old North Country man who was convicted in March for attempting to smuggle contraband into the Coos County House of Correction in West Stewartstown has been indicted on sexual assault charges that predate his incarceration.

A Coos County Superior Court grand jury has indicted Travis Hood, now an inmate at the same jail, on two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault and one count of felonious sexual assault between June 2011 and November 2013 in Berlin.

The alleged victim is a girl who was between 11- and 14-years-old during that time, according to the indictments. Aggravated felonious sexual assault is a special felony. Felonious sexual assault is a Class B felony.

Other indictments

In other indictments the grand jury handed up during its May session:

• Chance Bellanceau, 21, of 250 Madison Ave., Berlin, is charged with criminal threatening on Nov. 17, 2013, in Berlin. He is accused of placing John Wheeler in fear of imminent bodily injury or physical contact by using a deadly weapon, a knife, in the alleged incident. Criminal threatening is a Class B felony.

• Jonathan King, 25, of 100 Pine St., No. 300, Berlin, is charged with burglary on March 20 in Berlin. King is accused of entering the 399 Champlain St. home of the late Michael Mackey with the purpose of committing the crime of theft. Burglary is a Class B felony.

• Jessica Pennock, 29, of 74 First St., Groveton, is charged with burglary on April 14 in Groveton. Pennock is accused of entering the “dwelling place of another, Tina Wright,” according to the indictment, with the intent to commit theft.

• Jason J. McGill, 32, of 142 State St., Berlin, is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm, a Mossberg Maverick 12-gauge shotgun, on Aug. 10, 2013, in Gorham. McGill, according to court records, was convicted of criminal threatening on June 16, 2005, in Coos County Superior Court. Being a felon in possession of a firearm is a Class B felony.

• Leslie A. Jubert, 43, of 854 Fifth Ave., Berlin, is charged with bail jumping on May 5 in Lancaster. Jubert is accused of failing to appear in superior court on a charge of welfare fraud, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, according to the indictment. Bail jumping is a Class A felony.
