Fisher Cats win, break 11-game losing streak

The losing streak is over.

Matt Boyd allowed only one hit over six innings and Ryan Schimpf homered to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 3-1 victory over the Fightin Phils on Thursday in Reading, Pa.

The win enabled New Hampshire to break a franchise-worst 11-game losing streak that began on May 11.

Thursday’s contest was the finale of a five-series series. The Fisher Cats return home to to start a four-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday.

Boyd walked one and fanned four. He allowed Reading its only run in the fourth inning, on a two-out single for Cam Perkins. He left with the score tied 1-1.

New Hampshire scored a single run in the fourth, then tallied two in the eighth. Jon Berti extended his hit streak to 12 games with a base hit, then cruised home on Schimpf’s eighth homer of the season.

The blast made a winner of Tyler Ybarra (2-1), who pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth.

Randy Boone hurled a scoreless ninth for his first save of the year.
