NHIAA Roundup: Pinkerton, Souhegan earn lacrosse wins
Pinkerton Academy of Derry is starting to peak in boys’ lacrosse.
Todd Billiter garnered five goals and James Tully added four as the Astros captured their sixth straight win with an 18-5 decision against rival host Londonderry Thursday.
Pinkerton is in sole possession of second place at 13-3 and will host third-place Nashua North (10-4) next Tuesday. Londonderry dropped to 8-6.
Pinkerton led 9-2 at halftime behind Jake Lisauskas, who tallied two goals and four assists. Evan Sweeney collected three goals and two assists. Nick Yennaco led the Lancers with two goals and two assists.
Souhegan 17, Salem 3: In Amherst, Brendan Cray and Mitch Hale each netted six goals and added two assists. Souhegan improved to 10-5 with one regular season match to play. Salem dropped to 4-11. Joe Nutting added three goals and two assists to the win and Blake Burnley had three assists. Oilver Ouellette and Tim Craig each scored a goal for Salem.
Derryfield 13, Laconia 12: On Wednesday in Manchester, Derryfield (12-0) got past Laconia (8-2) behind four goals and two assists from Brynn Polgrean. Polly Carter had three goals and Alex Campbell-Diehl added two goals. Hailey Martal and Helen Tautkus each had four goals for Laconia. Cat Green had three saves for Derryfield.
Hopkinton 9, ConVal 8: On Wednesday, Zoe Paige and Maddy Zimmermann each scored three goals for ConVal. Meghan Close added a goal and an assist. Lilly Grisafi made 13 saves.
Winnacunnet 7, Alvirne 3 (Wednesday): Mike Nastasia collected three hits and Cam Hauze added a two-run double for Winnacunnet. Tyler Brown’s school record of 28 scoreless innings came to an end in the second inning. In six starts he has a 1.29 ERA and a 0.959 WHIP. Brown has recorded four shutout wins this season, including three straight against Bishop Guertin, Nashua South and Bedford. He will be attending Northeastern University next fall on a baseball scholarship, according to Alvirne head coach Mike Lee.
Campbell 12, Conant 2: Christian Bourgea had four hits and drove in two runs. Zack Byers and Connor Sahlin each added three hits and Kyle Shaw collected two hits and two RBIs. Campbell raised its record to 10-2 behind starting and winning pitcher Ryan Glendye (3-0) who fanned five and walked one. He allowed five hits.
Andover, Mass. 7, Salem 5: In a two-week span, Andover has toppled Londonderry, Bishop Guertin and now Salem. Matt Meisner led Salem’s five-hit attack with three and drove in two runs. C.J. Beaulieu, Mitch Dufton and Josh Perrault each had an RBI for the Blue Devils.
ConVal 9, Lebanon 4: On Wednesday, Matt Davis of ConVal pitched seven innings, giving up two earned runs. Mathias Fressilli had four hits and Tyler Aborn added three hits for ConVal.
Windham 8, Oyster River 2: Rachel Rogers got the win, striking out 12 Bobcats and allowing just three hits. Rogers helped herself at the plate, collecting two hits and three RBIs. Rachel Vafides had two hits and scored twice. Christina Steere (two hits) and Emily Comtois (double, 2 RBI) also contributed to the victory.
