Hooksett summer camp offers convenient local fun
HOOKSETT — Parents living in or around Hooksett looking for an affordable day camp to send their children to this summer, take notice: There’s such an option — Monday through Friday — in town.
Hooksett Parks and Recreation Department is offering its Fun in the Sun Camp from June 30 through Aug. 22. The camp is run primarily by teachers and college students serving as counselors, and children will participate in games, sports, arts and crafts and other fun activities, said Public Works Director Leo Lessard.
Lessard said last year’s camp averaged about 50 children a week, and this year’s camp is likely to offer more day trips. In addition to weekly treks to Hampton Beach, he said there are tentative plans to bring campers to Lake Sunapee, the Flume Gorge and other popular Granite State summer destinations.
The camp also offers theme weeks and plenty of other seasonally-appropriate activities, including a bouncy house and water slide each Friday.
There is no limit or minimum on the number of weeks a camper must attend, but the camp cost per child is a flat rate of $85 per week.
The price cannot be reduced for partial-week attendance. The cost per week for a second child is $65 and a third child is $50.
The camp typically runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but early dropoff is available at 7 a.m. and late pickup is offered until 5:30 p.m. For those interested in either of those services, an additional fee of $25 per week, or $50 for both services.
Those interested in signing their children up may do so at an upcoming registration session Thursday, May 29 at Town Hall or June 5 at the same location. Registration forms may also be printed from www.hooksett.org/Pages/HooksettNH_ParkRec/FunInTheSun and mailed to Hooksett P&R — Fun in the Sun, 210 West River Road, Hooksett, NH 03106.Any additional inquiries should be directed to Jessica or Nicole at the Department of Public Works at 669-8019.
