Manchester man pleads guilty to second-degree murder

MANCHESTER — A Manchester man accused of stabbing his wife multiple times in the neck and slitting her throat pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of second-degree murder.

John Hogarty, 54, was facing a first-degree murder charge, which would have carried a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors dropped the charge in return for Hogarty’s guilty plea to second-degree murder, New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Benjamin Agati said Friday.

Judge Gillian Abramson of Hillsborough County Superior Court, Northern District, sentenced Hogarty to a term of 30 years to life in prison.

Michelle Hogarty was found dead in her home at 316 Mammoth Road May 1, 2013.

Prosecutors said Hogarty believed his wife was having an affair and killed her out of jealousy.
