Exeter holds of Salem to post baseball win

Exeter scored in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and then held off a seventh inning charge from visiting Salem to earn a 4-3 win in NHIAA baseball action Saturday.

James Mundy tripled to score Ty Mezquita in the bottom of the sixth for the go-ahead run for Exeter (8-7).

In the top of the seventh, Salem (7-10) threatened by getting Nick Shumski to third base with one out, but Exeter pitcher Christian Devine got the last two outs to end the game.

Softball

Newport 6, Monadnock 0: At Swanzey, Stephanie Carl shut out the hosts to help Newport improve to 11-3. Maddie Ellnor went 2-for-3 for Monadnock (6-6).

Boys' lacrosse

Londonderry 12, Salem 1: At Salem, the game was close (2-1 Londonderry) after one but the Lancers (9-6) pulled away as the game wore on.

Max Hastings (four goals, two assists), Nick Yennaco (two goals, two assists), Dave Wiedenfeld (goal, three assists) and Dillan McKay (two goals) led Londonderry. Salem (4-12) got its goal from John Bartose.
