Manchester man charged over shooting in Rhode Island

BRISTOL, R.I. — A New Hampshire man was arrested by police in Rhode Island after allegedly shooting another man during a “melee” among gang members Sunday during a Memorial Day weekend cookout, Rhode Island State Police said.

Lang Bounama Lek, 24, of Manchester, N.H., was stabbed in the stomach during “a violent altercation between several Blood gang members who were attending a Memorial Day cookout,” police said in a release. He was treated in a Rhode Island hospital for his wounds.

State police Capt. Kevin O’Brien said Lek is accused of shooting a Massachusetts man, Jordan Lyttle, 23, who was treated in a Rhode Island hospital for gunshot wounds to the stomach, forearm and groin.

After being stabbed, Lek tried to drive away, but was stopped by a Portsmouth, R.I., officer on the Sakonnet River Bridge. A loaded 9 mm handgun was found on his car’s passenger seat floor, the release said.

Lek was charged with assault, firing a weapon in a compact area, firearm possession and firearm possession without a permit.
