Band says singer Bret Michaels leaves Palace Theatre stage due to medical emergency

Bret Michaels

MANCHESTER - Rock signer Bret Michaels was rushed off the Palace Theatre stage with what his band's guitarist said was a medical emergency during Thursday night's concert, according to a post on the singer's website and Facebook page.

"This is a message I never imagined I'd have to post," guitarist Pete Evick wrote. "In the 9 years I've stood next to him, I've never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger. One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret's blood sugar was extremely low."

Evick wrote that Michaels, 51, returned to the stage briefly to announce that he couldn't continue the show. He said Michaels, who has had Type 1 diabetes since he was 6 years old, is "a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar, he basically had to be dragged off the stage in his sickest of conditions."

Later, a post on Michaels' Twitter feed and Facebook page read, "Sending a shout out 2 all the paramedics both on & off duty who assisted Bret tonight. No words can thank you enough for ur help - Team Bret."

Michaels rose to rock prominence in the late 1980s as the lead singer of the band Poison. He was also the star of the VH1 reality TV show "Rock of Love."
