NEWMARKET — Two people were arrested early Friday after reports of several gunshots from a Salmon Street home.
Matt Henderson, 37, who owns the 6 Salmon St. home where shots were reported fired about 6:30 a.m. Friday, and a guest, Steven Givens, 25, of North Berwick, Maine, were each charged with felony counts of reckless conduct, police said in a release.
Officers responding to the home evacuated several homes in the area and notified local schools about the gunshots before making phone contact with two individuals in the home and getting them to leave the residence voluntarily, police said.
There were no injuries in the incident.
North Hampton police officer Brian Page was one of many officers from several jurisdictions who assisted with the response.
“There is no danger to the public at this time,” Page said at about 9:30 a.m., while manning a roadblock in the area. “The situation has been contained.”
Chief Kevin Cyr of the Newmarket Police Department said the men were in the single-family home when the shots were reported. Cyr said it was unclear whether the shots were fired inside or outside the home, but said “they were not fired at officers.”
Access to the neighborhood was blocked until about 10:30 a.m. Friday.
While waiting outside the Newmarket Town Hall to be allowed back into her home on River Street, which connects with Salmon, Hannah Allen said she had never seen similar incidents in the year she’s lived in the neighborhood.
“It’s pretty quiet,” she said. “There’s a lot of families.”
