Election by the numbers for 2014 election season
Filing period for candidates: June 4-13
Primary Election: Sept. 9 General Election: Nov. 4.
Voter deadline to change party affiliation: June 3 is the last day any registered voters can change their party affiliation before the primary, and it is the last day any person who wishes to file as a candidate can register to vote, as candidates must be registered voters in the town or ward to file for office. The Supervisors of the Checklist in each municipality are required to meet on June 3 between 7 and 7:30 p.m.
Where to file: Candidates for state representative must file at the town or city clerk's office where the candidate is domiciled. All other filings, such as for state Senate or Executive Council, must be made at the Secretary of State's Office during the filing period.
Late candidate filings: Filings made with the Secretary of State or the town or city clerk on the last day of the filing period, June 13, must be in-person by the candidate by 5 p.m.
Party registration as of January: Republicans - 261,846; Democrats - 236,774; Independent - 372,009.
