Abood paces Manchester Memorial baseball squad to victory

Peter Abood collected five hits, drove in five runs and scored three times to lead the Manchester Memorial baseball team to a 10-9 victory over Spaulding of Rochester in Rochester on Saturday.

Memorial trailed 8-4 after five innings, but scored four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. Kevin Gonzales and Ryan Heymans each had two hits for the Crusaders, who completed the regular season with an 8-10 record. Memorial will be on the road for the Division I tournament's preliminary round Thursday. Official pairings for the tournament are scheduled to be released Monday.

Mike Hoyt had three hits for Spaulding, which dropped to 11-7 but will be at home for the preliminary round. Bobby Carignan added two hits for the Red Raiders.Keene 6, Exeter 4: At Exeter, Keene scored two runs in the top of the seventh and improved its Division I record to 14-5. Ty Mezquita hit a three-run home run and drove in all four Exeter runs. The Blue Hawks, last year's Division I champion, fell to 8-10. Keene led 2-0 when the game was suspended on Friday.Souhegan 5, Hanover 4: At Amherst, Chandler MacKenzie tossed a complete game to highlight Souhegan's come-from-behind victory. MacKenzie allowed six hits, walked five and struck out two. Souhegan trailed 4-3 after five innings, but capped the scoring with two runs in the sixth. Hanover was playing its seventh game in five days.Campbell 11, Somersworth 0: At Somersworth, sophomore Kyle Shaw tossed a complete-game shutout in his first varsity start as Campbell completed the Division III regular season with a 14-2 record. Bob Baril and Vinny Bucci each hit a solo home run for the Cougars. Zack Byers had four hits and scored three runs.

Earlier Saturday, Campbell picked up a 5-4 victory at Bow. Byers broke a 4-4 tie when he scored on a throwing error in the top of the seventh. Junior Ryan Glendye pitched complete game to raise his record to 4-0.

Softball

Trinity 14, Hanover 2: At Manchester, Michelle Taylor had three hits - including a three-run home run - and drove in five runs to help the Pioneers complete their Division II season with a victory. Aly Pascucci, Jenna Nalette and Autumn Lansiegne each spent time in the circle and held Hanover to two hits. Sidney Elithorpe also had two hits for Trinity, which was coming off Friday's 2-0 loss to Souhegan of Amherst.
