Salem elementary schools' work on schedule
SALEM — The major renovation projects at the Fisk and Soule elementary schools are moving along on schedule.
Work at the Fisk School is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2014-15 school year, a major goal of both school and construction officials.
“I was pleased to learn from (construction management company) Bonnette, Page, and Stone that the Fisk School will be finished by Aug. 25, which is very close to the beginning of the school year,” said Superintendent Michael Delahanty. “They were six to eight weeks behind at that school at some points during the year, so they are really catching up.”
Work at the Fisk School fell behind schedule early in the process as construction crews encountered unanticipated ledge issues at the site. During the past months, Delahanty has told the school board that Bonnette, Page, and Stone has been committed to making up the time, possibly with additional work crews over the summer.
“They expect to make up some significant ground this summer,” said Delahanty.
The major renovations at the Soule School have continued to be close to schedule throughout the school year.
Currently, crews have been working on new classroom spaces within and outside the current buildings.
“There is still work going on in classrooms that are not occupied at the two elementary schools,” said Delahanty. “There is also site work going on to the exteriors. People driving by can see some wonderful changes to the structures themselves.”The gyms and libraries at both schools are being used as temporary classroom space as construction crews work to renovate some of the existing classrooms.
