Derry Council to again discuss anti blight ordinance
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the third-floor meeting room of the Municipal Center...Town Councilors agreed in April to form a seven member blight subcommittee to begin exploring the process for passing an anti-blight ordinance. After it was formed, the committee was to look into the legal requirements for establishing such an ordinance...Councilors addressed the vacant properties last year as one of the items in a joint meeting with the Planning Board.
In March, Council Chairman Mark Osborne said that passing a blight ordinance was one of the major projects he wanted to see the council accomplish...Osborne said such an ordinance should be enforcable.
Acting Administrator Larry Budreau said that part of the discussion will involve determining when the condition of a building warrants the consideration of some type of enforcement action...The current town code is vague on when a property is considered blighted, according to officials.
"Instead of it being part of the town's overall code, it would be a separate ordinance that would have some enforcement sanctions," Budreau said...In other agenda items, councilors are scheduled to discuss setting a public hearing for a proposal to accept funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, for personal body armor under the Bullet Proof Vest Partnership Program.
