Littleton man pleads guilty in attempted armed robbery

MANZELLA

HAVERHILL — A Littleton man charged in last December’s attempted armed robbery of a gas station and convenience store in that town will serve six months in the Grafton County House of Corrections.

Christopher Manzella, 28, of 3 Main Street, Apt. 10, has been sentenced to 12 months in the North Haverhill jail, with six months suspended, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery.

Judge Lawrence A. MacLeod Jr. gave him credit for 165 days pre-sentence confinement at a hearing late last month.

Littleton police Chief Paul Smith said in December after Manzella was taken into custody that while masked and armed with a handgun, Manzella made an unsuccessful attempt on the evening of Dec. 3 to rob the Circle K/Irving gas station on Cottage Street. He fled after a clerk refused to give him the money he demanded, according to the chief, who said the crime appeared to be drug-related.

A Grafton County grand jury indicted Manzella in February, saying he purposely placed store employees “Cara King and/or Alora Chartier in fear of imminent use of physical force by displaying what reasonably appeared … to be a firearm.”

At sentencing, the judge ordered Manzella to participate in recommended counseling, treatment and education programs, and to avoid all contact with King and Chartier.
