NHIAA Tournament Roundup: Derryfield boys' laxers, Raymond softball team advance to next round

Senior Griffin Phaneuf scored six goals and assisted on another to help the top-seeded Derryfield of Manchester boys’ lacrosse team defeat No. 16 Windham, 18-3, Tuesday in the Division III tournament’s first round.

Host Derryfield, which won last year’s Division III title, led 5-1 after one quarter and 11-2 at halftime. Mike Chiasson collected two goals and two assists for the Cougars, who also received a goal and three assists from Lee Sipes. Derryfield will be at home against No. 9 Laconia in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Boys’ lacrosse

Pelham 13, Kingswood 12 (OT): At Wolfeboro, Luke Tracy, Pelham’s leading scorer, collected his only goal of the game 35 seconds into overtime to hand the 10th-seeded Pythons the upset victory against the seventh-seeded Knights. Harley Kearney scored five goals for Pelham, which outscored Kingswood 5-2 in the fourth quarter.

Hollis/Brookline 17, Milford 6: At Hollis, the third-seeded Cavaliers received five goals and four assists from Sam Whitaker and advanced to the Division III tournament’s quarterfinals. Ryan Papineau added six goals for H/B.

Plymouth 14, Monadnock 2: At Plymouth, the second-seeded Bobcats held 15th-seeded Monadnock scoreless through three quarters and advanced to the Division III quarterfinals. Plymouth led 5-0 after one quarter, 7-0 at halftime and 12-0 entering the fourth.


Raymond 10, Laconia 5: Sabrina Sweeney had three hits and scored twice, and Danyel McNicholas had two hits, including an RBI double, and scored a run for Raymond in the host Rams’ first-round win in the Division III tourney.

Raymond led 5-0, when Laconia’s Chanda Parent hit a three-run homer to close the gap to 5-4. Raymond scored two in the bottom half of the frame to retake control of the game. The Rams visit Pelham on Thursday in the tournament’s second round.

Monadnock 14, Inter-Lakes 3: At East Swanzey, Yanna Hendrickson had three hits, including two home run, to propel the 14th-seeded Huskies to this first-round victory in the Division III tournament. Annie Crotto added four hits for Monadnock, which will face third-seeded Campbell in Thursday’s second round.
