Hudson man facing felony charges after flooding cell, assaulting civilian employee at Nashua PD

NATHANIEL RINES

NASHUA — A Hudson man, initially arrested for driving while intoxicated, is facing additional charges after he set off the fire sprinkler in his cell at the police station, punched a civilian detention employee twice, ripped his clothing and tried to bite him and an officer, according to police.

Nathaniel Rines, 24, of 9 Newton St., was arrested on the DWI charge about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday after police were called to the Racing Mart, 27 Canal St., in reference to an intoxicated man attempting to drive a motor vehicle.

At the station, while waiting for bail to be set, police said Rines tampered with the sprinkler in his cell, flooding it. A detention specialist tried to remove Rines from the cell. Police said Rines punched him twice and then tried to bite him and an officer. He also allegedly ripped clothing belonging to the civilian employee.

As a result, police charged Rines with two counts of assault by prisoner, both class B felonies; unlawful interference with a fire apparatus, also a class B felony; two counts of attempted simple assault, and one charge of criminal mischief.

He was held on $10,000 cash/surety bail pending arraignment in 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division.
