Amateur radio group event to be held at Taylor Mill in Derry
Members of the West Rockingham Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) will be on hand to greet the public and show off their skills at Taylor Mill on Island Pond Road, according to a news release.
During the event the public can learn about amateur or “ham” radio and how it can help in emergencies. The radio operators will join with thousands of other radio operators across the country showing off their emergency capabilities.
Ham radio operators provide backup communication for everything from the American Red Cross to FEMA and even local cities and town, the release said. The operating event officially begins at 2 p.m.
According to the field day new release, more than 700,000 amateur radio licenses have been issued in America and more than 2.5 million globally. There are more than 5,200 licensees in the Granite State, according to the release.
