Troubled flight lands safely in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH - An Allegiant Air flight from Florida to Maine made an unscheduled but safe landing at Portsmouth International Airport on Saturday morning after the aircraft developed engine trouble.

Ed Fritz, an airport operations agent, said the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. The pilot of Flight 736 from Sanford, Fla., to Bangor, Maine, shut down the left engine as a precaution and landed at Portsmouth. "They landed without event and just taxied to the terminal," Fritz said.

There were about 150 on board, and passengers had to wait until another aircraft was sent to pick them up. Originally scheduled to land in Bangor just before 11 a.m., the flight's arrival was delayed until about 6:15 p.m., according to the Allegiant Air web site.

3 people hurt in Concord crash

CONCORD - Three people were injured, one seriously, in a two-car crash on Sheep Davis Road on Saturday afternoon, Battalion Fire Chief Guy Newbery said.

Newbery said one man suffered serious head injuries. A medical helicopter from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center was called, but by the time it arrived, the man had already been taken to Concord Hospital by ambulance, he said.

Two other people were taken to Concord Hospital for treatment of less-serious injuries, he said.

Police said the crash is under investigation, but would provide no other information Saturday.
