Public meetings will address energy plan

CONCORD — The New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning (OEP) is prepping for six public meetings this month in several locations around the state, seeking comment on a new energy plan.

The sessions are being held to allow members of the public to weigh in on the State Energy Strategy, currently in draft form. Senate Bill 191, passed in 2013, directed the OEP to work with the State Energy Advisory Council to develop a strategy “to ensure that the state’s energy policies and programs support the state’s economic, environmental, and public health goals.” The draft version of the State Energy Strategy includes recommendations on energy efficiency, clean and renewable distributed generation, electric grid modernization, fuel diversity and transportation.

SB 191 included language requiring a minimum of four hearings be held in different regions of the state, seeking public input on the energy strategy. The State Energy Advisory Council has held 12 public meetings in Concord over the last nine months, receiving both oral and written public comments. Starting this week and running through June, the OEP will hold six meetings in the following locations to seek additional comments: June 10, at White Mountains Community College in Berlin; June 11, at the Kilton Library in Lebanon; June 18, at the Littleton Opera House; June 19, at Lakes Region Community College in Laconia; June 24, at the DES Regional Office at Pease International Tradeport; June 25, at Nashua Community College.

Each meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but citizens are asked to register in advance by emailing To ensure that anyone can participate, a webinar will be offered at the final meeting June 25. Login information will be provided at Written comments may be submitted until July 25. More information is available at, including the Draft Strategy for review prior to the meeting.
