LACONIA — Police released the identity Sunday of an elderly man struck by a mini-van while crossing South Main Street in a power wheelchair Saturday afternoon.

Laconia police Sgt. Mike Finogle said the man, identified as John Giuffrida, 82, of Laconia, was crossing South Main Street from Vista supermarket at 2:49 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a minivan driven by Claire Haynes, 65, of Belmont, who was headed north on South Main Street.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Lakes Region General Hospital.

A call placed Sunday night to check on his status was not returned by hospital employees.
