Londonderry, Alvirne advance Friday in baseball action

Londonderry senior and Gatorade Player of the Year Rob Del Signore carried a no-hitter through six innings to lead the No. 5 Lancers (14-7) to a 3-0 win over 12th-ranked Manchester Memorial while Tyler Brown threw a two-hitter to lead No. 7 Alvirne of Hudson past No. 10 Salem by a 7-0 score in NHIAA Division I baseball playoff action Friday.

Del Signore gave up one in hit, in the seventh inning to Dan O'Connor. Del Signore had nine strikeouts to pass 100 for his career.

Del Signore added an RBI double at the plate and teammates Jimmy Zimolka (RBI) and Tom Corey (RBI) added to the offense.

Londonderry will host No. 13 Nashua North (9-12) today at 4 p.m. Memorial finished the season at 8-11. Alvirne 7, Salem 0: At Hudson, the Broncos (11-8) blanked Salem behind Brown's effort and will face No. 15 Timberlane of Plaistow (8-11) today in the semifinals at Holman Stadium in Nashua at 4 p.m.

Brown threw a shutout for the Broncos, allowing just two hits while striking out eight. He had a hit and scored two runs to help his cause.

Alvirne scored five runs in the fifth inning, aided by two Salem errors.

Cam Blake had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Alvirne offense and Derek Hudson (single, RBI triple) chipped in.

Blake also made a clutch defensive play with runners on first and second in the third inning when Jake White hit a shot to the right-center gap and Blake dove to snag the ball to end the frame.

Salem (9-12) got hits from Kyle Nagri and Mitch Dufton. Dover 6, Merrimack 3: At Dover, the top-ranked Green Wave improved to 15-4 with a first-round win over No. 16 Merrimack (6-13). Dover will face No. 9 Bedford (10-9) today at 4 p.m. in Dover. Campbell 12, Bishop Brady 2 (6 innings): At Litchfield, top-ranked Campbell defeated No. 17 Bishop Brady of Concord in Division III action. Campbell (15-2) will host No. 8 Inter-Lakes of Meredith (12-5) at 4 p.m. today.

Tyler Butler got the complete-game win, allowing five hits and one earned run, striking out one and walking two.

At the plate, Bob Baril had the big hit with a grand slam in a seven-run third inning for the Cougars. Vinny Bucci (3-for-3, two runs, two RBIs) and Justin DiBenedetto (3-for-3, two runs, RBI) added offense. Newmarket 2, Derryfield 1: At Newmarket, No. 11 Derryfield School of Manchester got a run back in the fifth when Sawyer Strong delivered a sacrifice fly to score pitcher Kyle Slevira, but the Cougars could pull no closer in Division IV play.

No. 6 Newmarket (11-6) pitcher Sam Lahey threw a complete-game five-hitter with five strikeouts. Slevira took the complete-game loss for Derryfield (8-9).

The Mules will visit No. 3 Pittsfield (14-3) today at 4 p.m.Nashua North 5, Concord 3: At Concord Thursday, Zach Smith got the win by throwing five shutout innings to lead No. 13 to the upset win over No. 4 Concord (12-7).

Spencer Madden went 3-for-3 with an RBI for North (9-12), Chas DeWitt had two hits and three RBIs. Ricky Constant gave up two runs in the seventh but settled down to get the next three batters to end the game.

Softball

Campbell 15, Monadnock 0: The third-ranked Litchfield squad rolled past the visiting 14th-ranked Monadnock of Swanzey squad in Division III softball playoff action Friday.

Campbell (14-3) will host No. 11 Prospect Mountain of Alton (12-6) Monday at 4 p.m.

Olivia Martinage got the win for Campbell, allowing just one hit. Brittany McNulla went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, Emily Paquin went 2-for-4 with two singles and Amber Gibbons had a triple for the Cougars.

Annie Crotto had the lone hit for Monadnock (9-8), which committed seven errors.Pelham 7, Raymond 1: At Pelham, the fourth-ranked Pythons knocked off No. 13 Raymond in the other Division III second-round matchup Friday. The Pythons will host No. 12 Franklin (12-5) at 4 p.m. Monday.

Pelham scored early as Shannon Morin hit a two-out, two-run single to make it 3-0 in the first frame.

Freshman Sarah Ratcliffe went 4-for-4 with four RBIs on a pair of home runs. Elissa Mogauro also added an RBI in the first for Pelham.

Pythons pitcher Jordan Parese pitched the whole game, scattering seven hits with five strikeouts. Raymond (11-6) was led by Hannah McNicholas, who went 3-for-4.
