“Emily did a great job today,” said Campbell coach Joe Raycraft. “She puts the ball where it has to be and we played pretty good defense behind her today.”
Hannah Neild led Campbell, going 3-for-4 with a two doubles, a base hit and an RBI. Lauren King went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Paquin brought a run in on a sacrifice fly.
Campbell scored a run in each of the the first three innings and two in the fourth to go up 5-0.
“A lot of the time, I was throwing my screwball, which I haven’t thrown in a while,” said Paquin. “Even if it doesn’t hit the right spot it has a spin that makes it harder to hit.”
“This year (Division III) was really tight,” said Raycraft. “The difference between many of these teams is just one game. It’s going to take a total team effort to win this thing.”
Franklin broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the top of the eighth as Kat Styles singled to score Mariah Gauthier, who had reached on a two-base error.
Franklin pitcher Kelsey Bird went the distance and hit a three-run home run in the third inning to put her team up, 4-3, at the time.
