LITCHFIELD — Campbell High’s Emily Paquin pitched a three-hit, 12-strikeout gem, leading the Cougars to a 5-1 victory over No. 11 Prospect Mountain of Alton in an NHIAA Division III softball quarterfinal on Monday.

The third-seed Cougars advanced to the semifinals at Plymouth State University and will take on No. 2 Conant on Wednesday. Prospect Mountain finished its year 12-6.

“Emily did a great job today,” said Campbell coach Joe Raycraft. “She puts the ball where it has to be and we played pretty good defense behind her today.”

“It wasn’t our day for hitting,” said Prospect Mountain coach Rick Burley. “Their pitcher kept us at bay for some reason. We didn’t play the way we did all year.”

Hannah Neild led Campbell, going 3-for-4 with a two doubles, a base hit and an RBI. Lauren King went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Paquin brought a run in on a sacrifice fly.

The lone highlight for Prospect Mountain was a seventh-inning RBI triple by catcher Deanna Misiaszek.

Campbell scored a run in each of the the first three innings and two in the fourth to go up 5-0.

“A lot of the time, I was throwing my screwball, which I haven’t thrown in a while,” said Paquin. “Even if it doesn’t hit the right spot it has a spin that makes it harder to hit.”

Raycraft was a little surprised his team kept Prospect Mountain off the board as long as it did considering the parity in Division III this season.

“This year (Division III) was really tight,” said Raycraft. “The difference between many of these teams is just one game. It’s going to take a total team effort to win this thing.”

Pelham 7, Franklin 6: Chantal Roussel’s two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Pelham to a 7-6 win over Franklin in a Division III softball quarterfinal.

Pelham will face top-seeded White Mountains of Whitefield on Wednesday in a semifinal matchup at Plymouth State University.

Franklin broke a 5-5 tie with a run in the top of the eighth as Kat Styles singled to score Mariah Gauthier, who had reached on a two-base error.

In the bottom of the inning, Kelsey Grimard led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Julia Barsalou. Hannah Paitchel then walked before Roussel’s game-winning double to left-center.

Franklin pitcher Kelsey Bird went the distance and hit a three-run home run in the third inning to put her team up, 4-3, at the time.

Pelham freshman pitcher Shannon Morin went the distance and she had an RBI. Elissa Mogauro two two hits, including a two-run single, and three RBIs.
