Man sentenced for drug-deal shooting

MANCHESTER — A local man was sentenced Tuesday to 7 to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree assault for shooting another man during a drug deal last October, according to a release from Hillsborough County Attorney Patricia LaFrance.

Jeremia Ruiz, 21, shot Anthony Pedra on Oct. 27 during “a drug deal gone bad,” the release said.

Ruiz claimed that he was high on heroin when he tracked down Pedra and his brother, Joseph, and, believing that the men had robbed him during a drug deal, fired three rounds at them. One struck Anthony Pedra in the back, and doctors were not able to remove the bullet from his body, the release said.
