Schimpf homer paces Fishers


Ryan Schimpf’s two-run homer in the ninth inning secured a 7-5 win for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats over the Bowie Baysox on Tuesday night in Bowie, Md.

Schimpf’s homer was New Hampshire’s third of the night. Hector Jimenez hit a two-run shot in the seventh and Jon Berti hit a solo homer in the third. Schimpf had three runs batted in, including a first-inning sacrifice fly. Jonathan Jones squeezed home Andy Burns in the sixth for New Hampshire.

Christian Walker drove in all five runs for Bowie. He hit a two-run homer in the first and had a bases-clearing double in the seventh.

Scott Copeland started for New Hampshire, allowing two runs and six hits in six innings. Sergio Santos, on a rehab assignment from the Toronto Blue Jays, was roughed up for three runs in his inning of work. Arik Sikula worked a scoreless eighth to earn the win, while Randy Boone picked up his sixth save with a scoreless ninth.

The teams play again tonight at 6:35.
