LONDONDERRY — A 21-year-old man was airlifted to a Boston hospital after crashing his car into a tree early Wednesday morning.
Londonderry resident Matthew McCaffrey suffered serious injuries in the crash, which occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m., according to Londonderry Police Det. Chris Olson.
Police and fire personnel were summoned to the scene near 60 Forest St. after two callers reported hearing the crash.
McCaffrey, who was the only person in the 2010 Subaru Legacy, was taken to Tufts Medical Center by DHART helicopter. His condition was unknown Wednesday, however police described his injuries as “multiple and serious, but not life-threatening.”
Londonderry Fire Captain Douglas Cardwell said McCaffrey was trapped inside the heavily-damaged vehicle upon rescue crews’ arrival. Cardwell said a Londonderry firefighter sustained a minor hand injury during the rescue, but will fully recover.
The accident remains under investigation.Olson said it appears alcohol didn’t appear to play a role in the crash, but speed was a likely culprit.
