MANCHESTER — Rain suspended the finals of the 2014 NHIAA Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis Doubles Tournament at Derryfield School Thursday. NHIAA officials announced that play will resume Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Derryfield School. If rain postpones play again Friday, the finals will be played on Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Derryfield.

In the boys’ finals, Ross Kenney and Dylan Taylor of Winnacunnet of Hampton won the first set, 6-3, but were trailing in the second set, 6-5 to Dan Soucy and Andrew Allen of Bedford. Earlier in the day, Kenney and Taylor defeated Tim Court and Matt McKinney of Londonderry, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2) in the semifinals.

Soucy, who won the boys’ singles title this week, teamed with Allen to beat Iani Stamenov and Garret Husslage of Portsmouth, 6-3, 6-1.

In the girls’ finals, twin sisters Colbi and Berklee Vaillancourt of Derryfield defeated Cassie Burbine and Ana Milosavljevic of Londonderry in the first set, 6-3. The Londonderry duo was winning the second set 5-4 before a steady drizzle made the playing surface slick. Instead of chancing injury, tournament officials opted on the side of safety and decided to suspend the matches.

Earlier, the Vaillancourt sisters defeated the Hanover duo of Camille Hankel and Izzy Davis, 6-2, 6-2. Burbine, who won the girls’ singles title this week, teamed up with Milosavljevic to beat Shelby Herrington and Katie MacMullen of Bishop Brady, 3-6, 6-2 , 6-1.

Re-scheduling this tournament is becoming to be a problem on many fronts. Rain is likely today, which is why the NHIAA scheduled a second playing date on Monday. Derryfield School has graduation exercises on Saturday and the NHIAA has ruled out Sunday as a playing date.
