Virginia-based company expands in Salem
SALEM — Virginia-based EIT LLC is hosting the grand opening of its new Salem manufacturing facility on Thursday.
The plant is the electronic manufacturing services provider’s fifth facility and represents a move from Methuen to New Hampshire for the company’s northern presence in the United States.
“We outgrew that facility, and the new facility in Salem is 50 percent larger,” said Salem plant manager David Hager. “It will give us room to grow and service our customers better.”
The EIT Salem facility supports both prototype and production builds for medical, industrial, telecommunications, aerospace and defense customers, according to Hager.
In Salem, the company has about 60 employees and 30 customers.
With the additional space, Hager said the company expects to see both of those numbers grow.
“We want to grow and expand the business and grow the workforce,” he said. “We want to employ more people and help the economy.”
Hager said the company would like to expand work for both its existing customer base and bring in new businesses.
In addition to having more room at the Salem facility, Hager said there are several other benefits to moving to New Hampshire. The company has received considerable support from the state Department of Resources and Economic Development.
“Overall, from a business standpoint, it is a good spot between Manchester and Boston, which is the epicenter of our business,” Hager said.
Some of the hallmarks of EIT’s success in Virginia and New Hampshire resides in its focus on customer service and its high technical capacity to build the products its customers need, Hager said.
The new facility at 19 Keewaydin Drive is 30,000 square feet and has been completely renovated with ESD static control flooring, new energy efficient lighting, and new and upgraded manufacturing equipment.
EIT, founded in Virginia in 1977, provides contract electronic manufacturing services along with engineering and support services.
Its capabilities and resources include mechanical assembly, engineering design, machining and sheet metal and cabling/wire harness fabrication.
