Medicaid expansion allows for new signups July 1

CONCORD — New Hampshire residents who are eligible for Medicaid under the new rules approved by the state Legislature — can begin applying on July 1 for health insurance coverage that begins on Aug. 15 — state officials announced Monday.

New Hampshire residents between 19- and 65-years- old, with a household income of up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level, are eligible for new health care coverage under New Hampshire’s Medicaid expansion plan, which was a key component of the Affordable Care Act.

Qualified working adults with access to health insurance through their employer will be covered through their employer-sponsored insurance, with the state paying the employee’s premiums and other costs of coverage.

Those without access to employer insurance will be enrolled in managed care plans. Some may also voluntarily choose to enroll in a qualified health plan on the online marketplace at healthcare.gov.

Qualifying households include a household of one with a monthly income of $1,342; a household of two with a monthly income of $1,809; a household of three with a monthly income limit of $2,276; and a household of four with a monthly income of $2,743.

Applications can be submitted online at www.nheasy.nh.gov, by calling the Medicaid Service Center at 888-901-4999, by visiting a DHHS district office, or through www.healthcare.gov.

The Department of Health and Human Services is holding a series of informational sessions around the state to provide additional details about the program. All sessions run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the following locations:
