County prosecutor faces drug charge

Assistant Rockingham County Attorney Zachary Cross has been arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled drug, oxycodone.

Attorney General Joe Foster announced the arrest Wednesday of the 29-year-old Auburn man. He was arrested Tuesday in Manchester by the New Hampshire Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the Manchester Police Department.

Following his arrest, Cross posted $2,500 cash bail and is scheduled for arraignment July 14 in Circuit Court-District Division-Manchester.

Cross had been with the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office for about two years and had been handling cases in Circuit Court-District Division-Candia and Rockingham County Superior Court.

The New Hampshire Union Leader has learned Cross has been stripped of his duties and barred from his office following his arrest.

Associate Attorney General Jane Young said the investigation is ongoing into activities surrounding Cross’ arrest.

Prior to joining the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office, Cross was an intern at the Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office and the Franklin Police Department, where he served as a law clerk for the prosecutor.

Cross is a 2011 graduate of the University of New Hampshire School of Law and a 2007 graduate of the University of New Hampshire.
