WINDHAM — It’s been just about a year since the Windham and Pelham school administrative units were divided.
And as the school year winds to a close for the new SAU 95, Windham school officials are still trying to sort some things out.
During Tuesday night’s school board meeting, business administrator Adam Steel said staffing needs have fallen somewhat short following the SAU split.
Steel said the SAU lost three of its eight full-time administrative positions in its split from Pelham and since then the office has been struggling to conduct duties in the areas of business and facilities.
At Steel’s recommendation, the board voted unanimously on Tuesday to return a 25-hour per week, part-time administrative assistant position to the SAU’s staff roster. The position, which doesn’t provide benefits, carries an annual salary of $21,389. That’s still about $5,000 cheaper than the overtime expenses the shortage cost the SAU this past year, according to Steel.
“This just seems to make sense,” Superintendent Winfried Feneberg said this week. “We have plenty of tasks that need to be accomplished in the coming year.”
Feneberg said the plan now is to keep conversations open with the various administrative departments to determine ongoing and future needs.
“We now have a better sense of what we have and what we will need,” the superintendent said. “And we will continue to reflect and assess on those needs throughout the summer and into early fall.”
