Ex-Pinkerton teacher pleads innocent to sexual assault on student

David Howes

DERRY — A charge of sexual assault has been added against a former Pinkerton Academy teacher accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old student while she was in his classroom.

David Howes, 61, of 62 North Lowell Road, Windham, pleaded innocent to the additional charge and five counts of simple assault Thursday during his arraignment in 10th Circuit Court-- Derry Division, according to court officials.

The incident allegedly happened on May 22 after the close of the school day, according to Derry police.

Howes, who has worked at the school for about seven years as a building construction teacher, allegedly put his hand on the student’s right thigh and patted her inner thigh, according to two complaints filed by police. Howes also allegedly rubbed her inner thigh, according to three other complaints filed by police.

After learning of the alleged incident on Tuesday, May 27, Pinkerton administrators placed Howes on administrative leave. Following an investigation, Howes was fired on Friday, May 30, according to the school.

Last fall, Howes oversaw a project by students in the Career and Technical program to rebuild a trailer that is used by the Salem Exchange Club to sell Christmas trees as a fundraiser for the needy.

And in July 2007, he led a project to construct a modular home for a Goffstown family who lost their home in a flood.

A pre-trial management conference is scheduled at 12:45 on Aug. 21.
