Meet record set in NH decathlon, heptathlon

NASHUA - Freshman track sensation Corrine Kennedy of Lebanon set a event record in the 200-meter dash Saturday in the first day of competition at the New Hampshire Decathlon and Heptathlon Championships held at Nashua High School South.

With a time of 25.39, she shaved .01 off the old mark of 25.40 by Bree Robinson of Pinkerton Academy set in 2007. Kennedy also finished first in the 100-meter hurdles and holds the Heptathlon points lead with 2,666 after four events.

In the Decathlon, Starlin Ortiz of Londonderry leads after five events with 3,229 points. Ortiz finished first in three events: the 100-meter dash, the long jump and high jump.Another notable performance came from Anika Hibbert of Bedford, who won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches. She attempted to set an event record of 5 feet, 8 inches but failed on three attempts.Second day activities commence at 9 a.m. for the boys in the Decathlon and at 10 a.m. for the girls' Heptathlon.

Day Two events for the boys' include the 110 meter hurdles, the discus, pole vault, javelin throw and the 1,500 meter run.

The girls will compete in the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meter run.
