Solomon to tackle TV for Binnie network

June 24. 2014 8:00PM

Veteran New Hampshire news editor and reporter Dave Solomon is leaving his part-time position at the New Hampshire Union Leader to become managing editor of the New Hampshire One news network owned by Binnie Media.

NH1, which includes 17 radio stations and WBIN-TV, is owned by businessman Bill Binnie of Rye. Binnie ran for the 2012 Republican U.S. Senate nomination.

NH1 plans to start a nightly TV news broadcast in late August or early September as part of a new multiple-platform news organization to be based out of a remodeled school building in Concord. It is seen as the first serious local TV challenge to WMUR in recent years.

Before coming to the Union Leader in 2012 as a business reporter, Solomon served as editor of the Nashua Telegraph and editor of the Portsmouth Herald.

In his new role, he will report to NH1 News Director Robb Atkinson, who previously worked as senior director of sales and affiliate relations for CNN Newsource, and as news and operations director at WGME television in Portland, Maine.
