Morrison, Mariners blast Lackey, Sox, 12-3
SEATTLE -- Logan Morrison went 4-for-4 with two homers, four RBIs and three runs scored as host Seattle routed Boston, 12-3, in Monday's opener of their three-game set.
Kyle Seager collected three hits, scored three times and drove in two runs while Endy Chavez contributed a three-run triple among his two hits as the Mariners matched their season high for runs.
Robinson Cano notched two hits and Seattle racked up 14 overall while stretching its winning streak to four games.
Felix Hernandez (9-2) was the beneficiary of the offensive splurge as he gave up two runs and six hits in seven innings to end a three-start winless streak.
Red Sox starter John Lackey (8-5) allowed a season-worst seven runs over just 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and walking two.
Seattle sent 10 batters to the plate in both the fourth and seventh innings after spotting Boston a 2-1 lead on Mike Napoli's solo homer in the top of the fourth.
Seager's single, Dustin Ackley's fielder's choice and a wild pitch by Lackey accounted for the Mariners' first three runs during the six-run fourth inning before Chavez cleared the bases with his drive to right-center field. Morrison, who hit his first homer in the second inning, singled in a run in the fifth to make it 8-2.
Cano and Seager had RBI singles in the seventh before Morrison capped the four-run outburst with a blast to center off Chris Capuano that made it 12-2 as Boston fell for the fourth time in five games.
