Fisher Cats roll past Sea Dogs
Daniel Norris struck out 10 batters and allowed three hits to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 5-1 Eastern League victory against the Portland Sea Dogs before 4,168 fans at Hadlock Field Tuesday.
Norris, who will be representing the Blue Jays and Fisher Cats in the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, allowed three hits and walked three in 5 2/3 innings to earn his first Double-A win. He got a no-decision in his debut with New Hampshire last Wednesday against Altoona in Manchester.
New Hampshire (32-44) never trailed in the game after scoring a first inning run. Kenny Wilson led off the game with a triple to right and scored on a groundout to first base by Matt Newman.
In the fourth inning New Hampshire tacked on three more runs.
Newman hit his fourth homer of the season to right to lead off the frame. One out later Jonathan Jones tripled and scored on a single by K.C. Hobson. After a single by Derrick Chung advanced Hobson to third base, Kevin Nolan delivered his teammate home with a sacrifice fly to right.
Jones padded the lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning when he singled home Newman. Portland (50-27) took advantage of three walks and a hits batsman in the sixth inning to score its only run. Wilson and Jones each had two hits to pace the team’s 10-hit attack.
The series between the two teams concludes today at 6 p.m.
